How to use Allegra

The dosage for allergra depends upon the condition being treated and the age of the patient. The ideal dosage is as follows.

For seasonal Allergies:

Adults and Children above 12 years – 60mg twice daily or 180mg once in a day.

Children 6 - 11 years – 30mg twice daily

For Chronic Utricaria:

Adults and Children above 12 years – 60mg twice daily

Children 6 - 11 years – 30mg twice daily

The ideal way to use Allegra is to follow the instructions of your doctor. An alternative way is to check the medicine label for dosage instructions.

Allegra may be taken with or without a meal to avoid stomach problems.

Drug Class and Mechanism

Allegra, drug name fexofenadine is a second generation antihistamine that blocks the h1 receptor for histamine in the body. When this is done, Histamine which is responsible for the allergic symptoms like sneezing, is not produced and the symptoms are relieved. Being a second generation antihistamine, it does not induce drowsiness.

Missed Dose

It is important that you maintain a strict schedule for taking Allegra to ensure that you do not miss any doses. But if you do, then you may take it as soon as you remember provided that you space out the next dosage accordingly.

On the other hand, if it is almost time for the next dose, then omit this dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

Never consume two doses to compensate for a missed dosage.

Storage

Store Allegra between 68 to 77 degrees F (20 and 25 Degrees), at room temperature. Ensure that foil-backed blister packs containing these capsules should be protected from direct exposure to heat/moisture/light.
Do not use Allegra if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it (read medicine label if unsure).

Consult your doctor before using Allegra if you have conditions like heart, kidney, or liver disease, if you have any kind of allergies to food items, medicines or other substances, if you are using some kind of herbal preparation, dietary supplement, prescription or non prescription drug.

Allegra is in the pregnancy FDA category C. If you are pregnant or have plans for a pregnancy, then consult your doctor before using Allegra as Allegra may harm your fetus.

If you are breast feeding then please maintain caution as it is unknown whether Allegra is passed into the breast milk. So please consult your doctor prior to using it.

Please maintain caution while using Allegra in children below 6 years of age as the safety and effectiveness of Allegra in these patients are yet to be ascertained.
Most drugs have some kind of side effects associated with them. However, most people do not experience them at all or experience just mild side effects which subside as the body adjusts to the medicine.

Some of the mild but common side effects of Allegra are nausea and upset stomach.

However, please contact your doctor if these side effects do not go away after a while or start bothering you.

On the other hand, Allegra may also cause some severe side effects like (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives)
